Atlanta Falcons

This panorama of the Atlanta Falcons playing at the Georgia Dome was photographed by Robert Pettit. The Falcons franchise began on June 30, 1965, and in 1966 they began play at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. In 1992, they moved to the new Georgia Dome playing to a sellout crowd of 65,585. The Georgia Dome is the largest cable-supported domed stadium in the world. The Falcons nickname was picked from over 550 different suggestions and chosen after a school teacher explained that the Falcon is proud and dignified with great courage and fight. The Falcons' first winning season came in 1971, and since that time the club has had numerous playoff appearances and Division and Conference Championships.
