Anyone who sat in the stands at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull knows that it was the best park in the world for watching baseball. The overhang in right...the closest press box in the game...the bleacher creatures in center...the giant light standards around the park...the proximity to the action...second to none!
On September 27, 1999, the old park at The Corner was seeing its final action. An inning earlier, Robert Fick broke the game open with a roof-shot Grand Slam. Now, with two outs and two strikes on Kansas City center fielder Carlos Beltran, Todd Jones delivers to catcher Brad Ausmus. With the pitch in mid-flight...SNAP! The moment is captured for all-time.
With this poster, you are transported back to the final moment of Baseball at The Corner, when Beltran swung and missed to end an era. Like all prints in photographer Rob Arra's Everlasting Images series, every single detail is in perfect focus, and as you pan across the image you feel like you are actually at the game. Some amazing details on this print include: dozens of flashbulbs going off in the stands; a "Never Forget" banner in the foreground; the retired numbers, Hall of Fame names, and World Series banners on the right field facade; and the pitch, visible in mid-flight, approaching the plate.
