Last Night at the Stadium
A panoramic view in Cleveland - photographer Rob Arra

Friday, October 1, 1993 - the final night game at Cleveland's cavernous Municipal Stadium. After decades of sparse crowds, stiff winds, great moments and not-so-great moments, a new era in Indians baseball was about to begin. As the final sub-.500 season was winding down, and a stadium-closing sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox was beginning, everyone knew that better days were ahead. Starting in 1994, when Jacobs Field opened, the Indians became an American League powerhouse, and left the dreary days of recent Cleveland Stadium history behind.

Despite its obvious drawbacks, the Stadium holds countless fond memories for Indians fans. The 1948 World Series...Bob Feller's brilliance...Larry Doby's debut...Len Barker's perfect game...Bill Veek's promotions...the emergence of Lofton, Baerga, Belle, and the rest of the great Indians of the 1990s....it all took place at the stadium built for an Olympics that never came. On that early October weekend in 1993, fans packed the stadium to get one last glimpse of the grand old lakeside park.

With this poster, you are transported back to that crisp autumn evening in Cleveland. Like all prints in photographer Rob Arra's Everlasting Images series, every detail is in perfect focus, and as you pan across the image you feel like you are actually there! You can read the scoreboard, see the expressions on the fans' faces, see all of the details of the stadium, and the players on the field (including Paul Sorrento, Felix Fermin, Mark Lewis, Kenny Lofton, Albert Belle, and Manny Ramirez in his first September callup). The perfect historical item for the wall of any true Indians fan!
