Oakland Hills Country Club, site of the 1996 US Open Championship
This panoramic photograph was taken by James Blakeway. It features an aerial view of Oakland Hills Country Club, host to many championship tournaments dating back to the Western Open in 1922. The south course was formally opened in 1918 and the Clubhouse, which is still the basic structure we recognize today, was completed and opened in 1922. Oakland Hills has been host to 5 previous U.S. Opens including its most recent in 1985 which Andy North won. Jack Nicklaus missed making the cut in the 1985 Open and came back to win the 1991 Senior Open at Oakland Hills in a play-off with Chi Chi Rodriguez.
